Daisuke Kimukimu『Eliminating Corners』2/2

――Do you have any aspirations?

My goal is to work with Osamu Harada. Mr. Harada makes even his goods into works of art, and I want to be like him. Normally, artworks are stronger than the goods but he makes the goods his own, and the goods are almost as strong as his artworks. I think it's great that goods and works are on the same level, and I wish I could be like him.

――Where do you make your work?

I make illustrations and goods at home, and prints at school.

――Do you listen to background music?

I'm very biased (laughs), I use movies as background music. When I watch a new movie, I get distracted, so I always watch a certain movie. That movie is "Mimi wo Sumemeba," a 2017 Friday roadshow that I have recorded on my TV. When I watch this movie, I can link it to myself working on it at home, and it makes me work harder. When I see how hard Shizuku (the main character in the movie) is working, I want to work hard too. I like the feeling that the characters in the movie are improving each other, just like when I'm making my works. I love that movie!

――What do you think your strength is?

This is also difficult. It's hard to say, but I think I'm consistent in my work because I'm focused on a certain axis.

――What are the strengths of your work?

--(laughs) I think a lot of people who make art are torn between the two extremes of art and design. I think a lot of people who are making things are torn between the two extremes of art and design. ...... I don't think there is any difference between the two, but I think my work is a combination of both. Some people see it as design, some see it as more fine (art). I feel like I'm half of both. (laughs) I can go either way, but there's a theme or axis to it. (laughs) I can blur either way, but there is a theme or axis to it, and there are things I can do only if there is an axis.

――What do you wish for your work?

This is similar to the text in my graduation project that I mentioned earlier. I'm hoping that the loss of horns will be seen as an aggressive part of society and that by using humor and kindness instead of anger, we can make life easier in the future. I hope I can convey this to everyone through my work.

――Who do you want to communicate your work to?

Men and women of all ages! People of all ages, regardless of gender. I hope that people will like it and watch it.

――Do you have a goal for the future?

I'd like to become an artist that more people can recognize.
