――What is the most memorable work you have ever done?
Recently, I'd say the ALBION cosmetics ad.
――Why?
Because the media was big and it was challenging to do.
Most advertisements are very strict and you can't do what you want because of the brand's image, but this one I was able to do freely.
I think it's because I was able to do this freely.
――What do you think about when you choose flowers?
I try to choose flowers with good color. (laughs) Recently, I haven't used many red flowers. (laughs) Even if they are red, pinkish, and matte colors are popular among me. I also don't want to add leaves, because if I do, everything will look natural. It's okay if the flowers are green, though. In terms of combinations, I want to add colors that are the opposite of pink, such as light blue or green. I also like to stick with the same color, though.
――The way you choose is like fashion, isn't it?
Yes, yes. Just like fashion, I decide based on the material and color. I like this flower! I don't choose based on "I like this flower! I like the combination of colors in the flowers.
――Have you ever felt the difference in the combination of flowers made in Japan and other countries?
Yes. I think there are more natural combinations in Japan. In Japan, I don't think they like artificial colors or colors that don't exist naturally. In other countries, primary colors are used, and I feel that they are often seen as art.
――How long have you been involved in flowers?
My family produces flowers. When I was in my third year of college, I decided to start job hunting.
I didn't want to do it because I didn't think I was cut out to be a salaryman (laughs), so I decided to join a flower shop and started working part-time.
After working at the first flower shop,
I went to a different store, but one of the workers there said, "Why don't you start your own business? So I started my own business.
――What made you decide to join a flower shop? Is it related to your family?
Yes, that's right. My family produces flowers, so that's why I decided to go into the flower industry.
I was also inspired by my friends around me who were actors and models.
――When you are asked to do a job, what kind of process do you follow?
After deciding on the color of the base, I go to the biggest flower market in Japan and select what I think is good.
